The National Fire Protection Association recommends that chimneys be inspected yearly. The most recent statistics from the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission indicates that in 2003 there were 26,600 fires caused by solid fuel heating equipment. These fires resulted in 90 deaths and more than $142 million in damages.

Chimney sweep:
